Is it legal to purchase a "knock off" designer purse?
Is it legal to purchase a "knock off" designer purse? I would love to have one and not pay the huge price of a real one but not sure if its legal to buy them online or not? I don’t want to buy one from an undercover cop on a "knockoff" purse sting.

Yes it is legal to purchase one.
nope you’re good to go
It’s perfectly legal to purchase them! Just not to sell them.
Why would it be illegal?
They’re just imitations.
They sell them in Chinatown in New York City and you’d think the people selling them would get in trouble, but they don’t so I don’t see why it’d be illegal.
i hope soo….i did!!
i love it though.
in nyc on canal street they have millions, and lots of people buy them …so im pretty sure!
good luck=]]
I feel you should just leave that alone. If you know what i mean.
I would think its legal to buy them as long as they are not stolen, but the company that sells them may get into legal trouble
…I haven’t gotten in any trouble yet for buying my knock off Crocs
is it iligal to buy a nock off crayola crayon?… Nope your good to go you can buy whatever you want as long as you dont buy shiny silver in mexico. I got my girl friend one and found out it was rope dipped in silver.
ummm… of course you can buy a knock off designer purse!!!! how do you think i got all mine??? lol
Actually it is very illegal. Just like buying pirated dvds are. Im from NYC and here, it is always on the news that if you are aware of buying fake imitations, then you are violating the law. Its just like how downloading songs from limewire are illegal because they are copyright. Thats why you see people on the news being fined for it. If its illegal for .99 songs, I guarantee its illegal to buy imitations of $600 bags. Once again, it is illegal. Many people misunderstand that this is a very serious crime. Remember, the laws that make this illegal are the same laws that protect the companies that design them. If they lose profit, the government loses potential tax dollars. Therefore, they have made it an issue to stop people from buying knock offs by making it illegal to buy or sell them. Just so you know, in nyc, these knock offs are lined out on sheets. When they see a cop, they just grab all four ends of the sheets so that it forms a littlesack to run with.
I have never heard of a knockoff purse sting on ebay. I would think that would be safe, check their feedback and make sure they are a long time seller. I don’t really even know if it is illegal to buy it even though it is to sell it. But either way the likelihood of getting caught is minimal and even if you did get caught what are they gonna do to you? Tell you not to do it again. I say go for it, why pay $700 for a purse when you can get a lookalike for 50?
I don’t know if it is illegal or not but I think that if cops are doing knock off purse stings then I am going to be really pissed about where my tax dollars are going. Second off……if you can’t afford the real thing then what is the point in pretending? I think that it is sad that people think that having name brand this and that makes a difference in thier lives. Get a bag that holds your stuff that you can afford. No one is going to notice if you have a designer bag….and if you do they are going to be able to tell it is a knock off and make fun.
I would rather pay $19.99 for a bag from Target then pay $100.00 for a crappy looking LV bag any day.
If you’ve ever been in Chinatown, NY, Santee Alley in the Fashion District in LA or Ebay….you’re in knock off land.
It isn’t illegal to buy them, just sell them. Don’t pay too much for fake or buy used real ones at an upscale resale shop or outlet. That is what I prefer.
Not 100% sure but I don’t think you would get in trouble. If the police gets you and ask you "Did you know that bag was fake when you bought it?" what are you going to say "Yes, I did."? If you say "No," then they can’t really prove whether you knew or not.
Yes…stores all over carry knockoffs. I do not purchase them. You get what you pay for. You will be surprised at the prices. Also, you will be so proud of your new purchase. If the real one seem too expensive, here are some ideas:
Check out the outlets(Coach)
Overstock.com
Many manufacturers have clearances
Only if the knock off is not acting like the genuine article. There is a difference between items that are designed to be simular and those that are copies. If it says LV on it and its a cheap china copy then yes, its illegal. If its just the same style then no. Its like the cheap perfumes you find in discount store that say "Inspired by" or "Our version of", they can be simular but the minute you cross the line and say it is geniune, it breaking the law. But they have to prove you knew it was a fake for any prosecution
I have not heard of anyone going to jail for it but I have heard of handbags being taken by customs officers at airports.
That said if you want to buy a "knock off" meaning designer Inspired – Looks like the designer bag but has no illegal logos or brand names then your ok.
But if you are considering a counterfeit bag meaning it has logos and name brands then that is illegal. Many people do it but a lot of them loose there money. Ebay is very overpriced and if you are buying from an international website the bag will be confiscated by customs.
So, stick to the "Knock-off", designer Inspired handbags and your ok.
My favorite online shop is Kiikas.com. They are in the USA, ship super fast and offer 100% Money Back Guarantee.
Knock off means that it just looks like the designer but it doesn’t have the name on it.
